About Yola ========== So far the overall impression of Yola is that it may be a good choice for a local group wanting to get a web presence. There are many positives: :-) it's free, generous with space and is easy to use; :-) editing is made very visual and intuitive for non-programmers; :-) up to 3 free pages; :-) viewers are spared multiple adverts - there's just a discrete link to Yola; :-) the Instant Help is always available when editing and instructions are very clear; :-) helpful previews of changes, which can then be saved before going live; :-) it works well (perhaps best) with fast-changing content, so you can do a bit at a time; :-) files and images can be stored and accessed from folders on Yola, for those who like parcelling things up; :-) any page can be password protected; :-) techies can always resort to typing HTML in a widget; :-) various upgrade versions if the free offering isn't enough. On the negative side (for Neil): :-( there's one master log-in by email (I think!), so it's harder to have two cooperating authors with their own identities; :-( no HTML file upload in the free version; :-( the adverts for Yola upgrades can feel a little intrusive (but could be thought helpful rather than aggressive); :-( copy-and-paste within the Yola editor can be both limited and awkward at times; :-( there's no archiving, so you'll need to consider your options if you ever want to move elsewhere.
